Dinesh knew about The Welcome Centre as he used to make small donations when he could afford it but he didn’t expect to need to use it himself.
As a full-time worker with two young children, Dinesh and his wife had always managed to get by. However, due to spiralling costs and no increase in his or his wife’s pay, he found himself on the other side of The Welcome Centre.
When Dinesh arrived to collect his food pack, he brought with him a huge rucksack to carry all his items home. The Advice team explained we would happily deliver, as they were a family of four without transport, however, Dinesh was embarrassed in case his neighbours saw. We explained to Dinesh that we deliver in an unbranded van and that we could happily do that in the future should he need it.
I feel so embarrassed; I don’t want my neighbours to know that we need support with food. Me and my wife work hard and in this day and age, I should be able to support my family as a working man.
