Ali was referred for a food pack for his family due to being in the UK on a sponsorship visa so he was restricted in the work he could complete and had no recourse to public funds. Ali's wife had recently given birth and they had two other children. Due to his zero-hour contract and not being offered the hours he was anticipating, the past few months have gradually gotten worse and left him with no income to pay his bills or feed his family.
"I want to work more hours but they are just not there! It got to the point that when our baby was born I couldn't afford the essentials for him. We received a mosses basket, baby clothes, and a baby pack which included nappies. I just can't believe the support we have received"
Ali was referred to our in-house Advice, Guidance, and Support Service. They assessed his situation and offered guidance with E-Visa registration and a referral was made to Home Start to ensure that the family received the most appropriate support. The family where also referred to Uniform Exchange so that the older children had the correct uniform and winter coats to keep them warm over the winter months.
In December we invited clients to Energy drop-in sessions to discuss energy consumption and provide tips on reducing bills. Alis family attended this session and were given valuable advice and fuel vouchers to ensure the family was warm and able to cook food provided by us.
As Christmas approached, they were invited to the Christmas present drop-in sessions, where they were able to choose presents for each child and also allocated 2 preloved bikes for the older boys, which were delivered to the family.
"Thank you to The Welcome Centre, you have gone above and beyond helping in helping my family during a really stressful time. You have made things a lot less frightening whilst I looked for more sustainable employment"
