Trustees Take on 26.2 Miles to Support People in Crisis
On October 19th, two of our incredible trustees at The Welcome Centre will be lacing up their trainers and taking on full marathons each in a different country, all to raise vital funds for people in crisis.
โจ Andrew, our dedicated Chair of Trustees, will be heading to Slovenia to run the Ljubljana Marathon, one of Europeโs most scenic and celebrated city runs.
โจ Rachel, trustee and passionate advocate for community support, will be taking on her first ever marathon at the Yorkshire Marathon in York.
While their routes may differ, their mission is the same: to raise crucial funds that allow The Welcome Centre to continue providing emergency support to people in need across South Kirklees.
๐ Why Theyโre Running
At The Welcome Centre, weโre more than just a food bank. We provide tailored support to help individuals and families get through crisis situations with dignity, compassion, and practical solutions.
In the last year alone:
๐ฝ๏ธ Over 317,000 meals were provided to people facing food poverty.
๐ก Nearly 2,000 households received guidance, advice, and practical help — from essentials like toiletries and clothing to support navigating complex financial or housing issues.
But demand continues to grow, and so does the need for support.
Thatโs why Andrew and Rachel are going the distance, literally, to help raise funds and awareness.
