This year’s holiday hunger appeal, Feeding Families, has been a huge success.
A few months ago, we launched our Feeding Families fundraising appeal to raise £15,000.
A few months ago, we launched our Feeding Families fundraising appeal to raise £15,000.
A huge target, and one that we thought was going to be quite a challenge. But no, you’ve all exceeded our expectations and risen to that challenge. We have surpassed our goal, and raised nearly £17,000 so we’ve made the decision to close both the online and text donate appeals.
The generosity of individuals, families, parents, businesses and our community has been overwhelming.
During the appeal, we’ve received letters and messages from parents and grandparents, explaining that although they don’t have much money themselves, they can afford to send a small donation to help those children who would have gone hungry this summer.
And who can forget Harry.
Not only have we received a huge amount of financial support, but Harry from Lindley Infant school, brought in a massive donation of food for the Feeding Families packs after he had heard about the appeal. Local churches and businesses have also made donations of food for the packs, with a special thanks to Diamond Logistics, Ramsdens, Suma, St Thomas’s Church in Thurstonland , Sainsbury’s Shorehead and many more for all their support.
Feeding Families runs alongside our regular food bank, which has also been extremely busy this year.
Running two projects, means two sets of volunteers. We’ve been delighted that Carolyn, one of our regular food bank volunteers, has coordinated the Feeding Families project, supported by a team of volunteers from The Welcome Centre. Local businesses have also stepped in to help, sending their employees down to volunteer for the day. Thanks to volunteers from Lloyds Banking Group, FMG, Sainsbury’s and Yorkshire Building Society for all their support.
The Feeding Families project has provided more than 200 children with food parcels each week.
Parcels containing breakfasts, lunch and snacks to last them 5 days, have helped keep tummies full and really has made a difference. With just a few days of the project left, we’ll be sending out an update once the schools return, to tell you how many parcels we’ve given out, how much we’ve spent etc.
Any monies unspent from this summer’s Feeding Families appeal will be put aside for the next holiday hunger project we run. These funds won’t be spent on the general food bank.
