First4Lawyers donate to The Welcome Centre to support local families
2020 has been a difficult year for almost everyone, with almost every individual and business facing challenges never imagined before. Many people have turned to rely on food banks this year as unemployment continues to rise and uncertainty due to the pandemic continues.
In 2019, we supported local charity, The Welcome Centre, a local food bank who are dedicated to providing support for those who need it most in and around the Huddersfield area, by running a ‘reverse advent calendar’ which saw staff members bring a food item every day during December which resulted in a large donation to the centre.
This year, we wanted to continue our support for the charity, but with staff working remotely and with local restrictions in place this brings its challenges. In October, we donated £500 to The Welcome Centre as part of an incentive for lawyers taking part in research undertaken for our annual industry white paper.
Christmas is the busiest time of year for the charity and 2020 is certainly no exception. So for our charitable donation this year, we asked staff to donate to The Welcome Centre, which raised a total of £150. The board then agreed to round this figure up to £1,000, meaning we have donated a total of £1,500 to support local families in need in 2020.

It’s very important to us at First4Lawyers that just because we are not in our Huddersfield office, we do not lose sight of our local community. I don’t think of any of us could have predicted quite how in-demand their service would be this year and so we are proud to be able to support this lifeline charity. I suspect that now more than ever the foodbank’s services will be needed, and I hope other local businesses follow suit if they can.
