50p pot challenge proves a success once again. | The Welcome Centre

The 50p pot challenge is now closed for 2019 and we're delighted to say that it was once again a great success.

Local community groups, businesses, churches and individuals all got involved this year and raised £3,100 with Gift Aid still to be added.  The pots have become a popular work place fundraiser with local businesses Sheards, Grumpy Mule Coffee, Diamond Logistics and Taytrans Ltd all raising money for The Welcome Centre.

This year we provided 270 Christmas packs in the 10 days before Christmas.

The funds raised have been used for the 4th year running to provide our clients with an additional food pack before Christmas. Each pack contained a variety of items to make Christmas lunch, including fresh vegetables, condiments, puddings, meat, chocolates and Christmas crackers.  The 270 packs given out supported a variety of individuals, couples and families totalling 462 people.

Emma Greenough, Fundraising Manager at The Welcome Centre said

December is always an incredibly busy month for The Welcome Centre and this year was no exception. We provided 789 food packs along with a further 286 toiletry packs and many additional items such as bedding, curtains, nappies and pet food. We know that this time of year comes with additional budgeting issues for our clients, such as heating costs, the need for warmer clothes and the seasonal costs. By raising this money from the 50p pots we can provide a little extra help to ease the burden. We'd like to thank everyone that helped make this a success.

Any additional funds raised through the appeal that are not spent on Christmas packs will be used to cover the running costs of The Welcome Centre.
