The Star Pub in Roberttown who dish up a fantastic Sunday carvery, will be cooking 450 meals ready for the food bank clients whilst also running their busy pub in the run up to Christmas.

Mike Bristow, Centre Manager at The Welcome Centre said
In the past, we have provided meat, veg and gravy for our clients to cook at home at Christmas. However, not everyone has cooking facilities and we are mindful of the extra cost of using gas and electricity to cook a full roast dinner. Last year, when Covid was restricting what we could do, we decided to mix things up a bit and switch to freshly prepared meals that are frozen and can be reheated in a microwave. The numbers that we require this year has made it difficult to find a supplier and were chuffed when The Star said they would help. We know it’s a really busy time for them in the run-up to Christmas, but they are keen to get involved in supporting the community and we know they do great food.

The Welcome Centre will be providing around 450 freshly cooked Christmas lunches including vegan, vegetarian, Halal and non-cook versions as well as their extra festive treats. Funded by their recent Big Give Challenge where The Welcome Centre raised more than £23,000 they hope the meals provide a little bit of festive cheer.

We’re delighted to be helping such a wonderful charity deliver a small piece of Christmas cheer. Christmas 2020 was difficult and challenging for everyone; however, hopefully this year we can spend it how we would like to and be with our loved ones. We have had fantastic support from the local community and I feel very lucky that I am able to give something back. It has been an inspiring challenge for our kitchen team, led by Jon Armstrong, who volunteered to work his days off in order to get the order complete. We would like to thank Threshfield Catering Supplies, of Guiseley, who have also supported this worthy cause by supplying all the veg.
