Welcome to our covering Chief Executive - Kate Auker
Kate joins us as Ellie Coteau goes on maternity leave
I'm now at the end of my first month at The Welcome Centre and what a wonderful welcome I've had! Our magnificent team of volunteers, staff and trustees have been patiently showing me the ropes during our busiest time of the year.
We have a huge range of operations here that combine seamlessly to provide a service that we can all be proud of; consequently, my induction has ranged from phone referral training to warehouse operations, pushing trolleys to packing butter with lots of virtual meetings in and amongst!
I've always worked in the Charity sector, predominantly in projects supporting people facing inequalities and discrimination; that is where my heart is.
I've previously worked in a foodbank and homeless shelter and with children, young people and families at Barnardo's, seeing first-hand the impact of increasing inequalities in the UK over the last eight years.
I am committed to doing what I can to tackle this and ensuring that we provide the highest quality service we can to those that need us.
We could do none of this without your support; the response from Kirklees and beyond has been truly exceptional throughout an incredibly challenging year and we offer our sincere thanks.
I will now be taking the reins from Ellie as she goes on maternity leave just before Christmas.
It's a privilege to be leading her team through what we hope will be a gentler year ahead and we wish her love and luck as her family increases and look forward to welcoming her little one in the new year.
